Air Conditioning

Air conditioners are rated in seasonal Energy Efficient Ratios (SEER). 13 SEER is the current government minimum. SEER is like miles per gallon rating of automobiles. The higher SEER numbers save you more money. For example, a 13 SEER rated air conditioner uses 33% less energy than a 10 SEER unit. Air conditioners may look similar, but check the SEER ratings.

PURON Refrigerant
The Refrigerant Story
Today, when indoor comfort is taken for granted, our challenge is to provide you with products that are more energy-efficient and reliable while complying with tougher environmental regulations. By designing the first air conditioner to offer a long-term replacement for Freon 22, Carrier is proud to be a leader in the global solution to eliminate the depletion of the ozone layer.
The Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, recognition of high efficiency products.
The EPA has approved PURON to replace current chlorinated refrigerants (R-22).
Certified that the PURON refrigerant is environmentally friendly and non-threatening to earth's ozone later.

Chlorinated Refrigerant Phase Out

As of January 1, 2010, manufacturers can no longer use chlorinated refrigerants (R-22). This makes PURON an ideal replacement.

The price of R-22 is increasing dramatically, which will increase the cost of any service involving such refrigerant. When R-12 was phased out a few years ago, the price increased by 600%. This increase greatly affected the automotive industry, which used R-12 in vehicle air conditioners. The phase-out of HCFCs is now impacting the cost of R-22 -- and in the future will affect the ability of dealers to service units cost effectively.
